A client once came into the showroom and stood between two very different pieces.
One was a red Chinese cabinet with brass hardware. The other was a softer blue cabinet with a calmer finish. She liked both, but she kept asking the same question:
“Which one will work better in my home?”
This is something I hear often.
Colour is one of the biggest decisions clients struggle with when choosing Chinese furniture and decor. They may already know the size they need, or the room where the piece will go, but colour changes everything. It affects the mood, the weight, the energy, and even how formal or relaxed a room feels.

I often recommend natural wood when a Dubai home already has many polished finishes — marble floors, cream walls, glass, metal, or clean modern furniture. Wood softens these materials immediately. It brings texture without adding a strong colour, and it makes the space feel more settled.
A carved Chinese console also allows the craftsmanship to be seen more clearly. The open carving, joinery, patina, and hand-finished surface give the piece depth that a flat modern console cannot bring.
This is why natural wood works beautifully in dining rooms, quiet corners, hallways, and living spaces where the client wants warmth rather than drama. It feels timeless, calm, and easy to live with.
It also pairs beautifully with Chinese porcelain. Blue-and-white jars on a wooden console feel classic, but not overly formal. The porcelain adds refinement, while the wood keeps the room warm and personal.
Colour Should Support the Room
The biggest mistake is choosing a colour only because it looks beautiful on its own.
The room matters.
