Colour matters? Feng Shui explained

Colour plays an important role!

I'll never forget the first time a Feng Shui master walked into my showroom. He didn’t ask about wood type, joinery, or provenance. Instead, he quietly observed the colours.

“Your cabinets are alive,” he said, “but some of them are louder than others. In a home, you must choose which voice you want to hear every day.”

That line has stayed with me. Over the years, I’ve seen how clients respond not just to the craftsmanship of a piece, but to its energy through colour.

The Calm of Earth

One client, a young couple in Downtown Dubai, customised a soft beige altar table. It blended so effortlessly into their space, but the effect was powerful—suddenly, their living room felt grounded, stable, and safe. When you think of the Earth element, imagine standing barefoot on warm terracotta tiles or leaning against the cool stability of stone. In Feng Shui, the Earth element is all about grounding, stability, and nourishment. It brings a sense of safety and permanence—qualities every home quietly longs for.

Modern Styling with Earth

  • Minimalist Homes: Use Earth tones as your foundation—creamy cabinets, clay planters—then add a single bold accent (like a jade-green vase).

  • Bohemian Spaces: Layer Earth textures (woven rattan, terracotta, soft beige upholstery) with colourful textiles and wooden accents.

  • Luxury Fusion: Pair a soft cream Chinese wedding cabinet with metallic details and statement lighting. The result feels rich, grounded, and timeless.

The Renewal of Wood

Another family fell in love with a deep green Chinese wedding cabinet. They told me later that, after placing it in their dining room, dinners became longer, conversations more joyful. If the Earth element grounds us, the Wood element lifts us upward. In Feng Shui, Wood is the symbol of growth, expansion, and vitality. It’s the rising sun, the new sprout, the energy of beginnings.

When clients walk into our showroom and gravitate toward green, dark wood, or bamboo pieces, I know they’re craving that sense of renewal—whether in their home, career, or personal life.

Luxury Fusion Interiors

  • Deep mahogany cabinets with jade inlays or gold handles.

  • Statement green pieces (like a lacquer cabinet or altar table) against marble or stone backdrops.

  • Balances prosperity with renewal, ideal for statement entryways or dining rooms.

The Spark of Fire

Of course, not all colours are meant to dominate. I once delivered a striking red lacquer sideboard to a villa in Arabian ranches . Gorgeous! It turned the quiet room into a lively gathering place, the piece made the visitors say, “Wow, this feels alive.” In Feng Shui, Fire is linked with warmth, charisma, and transformation. But like an open flame, it needs balance—too much can overwhelm, too little can leave a space cold.

Contemporary Luxury Spaces

  • Pair a red lacquer wedding cabinet with marble floors and gold accents.

  • Use deep plum or burgundy velvet chairs around a neutral dining table for elegance without chaos.

  • Fire, when paired with luxury materials, feels rich and sophisticated.

The Flow of Water

For a villa in Emirates Hills, we placed a blue hand-painted Chinese console in the hallway. The owners told me it reminded them of calm ocean waves welcoming guests home. Water is the element of wisdom, flow, and adaptability. In Feng Shui, it represents abundance and clarity—like a river that knows how to move around rocks yet always finds its path forward.

Scandinavian Calm

  • Soft pastel blues on upholstered chairs or side tables add serenity to pale woods and whites.

  • A black sideboard with clean lines provides contrast, anchoring airy Nordic spaces.

  • Small water-inspired décor—ceramic vases, blue wall art—can add flow without disrupting simplicity.

"If there’s one thing Feng Shui has taught me, it’s that no colour is wrong—only unbalanced. Too much grey can make a space feel lifeless, too much red can agitate. But when you blend Earth with Wood, Water with Fire, and add a little Metal sparkle, your home becomes more than stylish—it becomes alive."
